Speaking
A 45-minute plain-English talk for libraries, senior centers, and community groups in Western Michigan. Real examples, simple habits, no tech background needed.
The phone call that sounds exactly like your grandson. The text that looks exactly like your bank. The video of someone saying something they never said. AI has made scams faster, cheaper, and far more convincing, and older adults are the number one target.
In this talk I show real examples of how these scams work, in plain English. Then we cover the simple habits that stop them: how to verify a voice, what never to say on an unexpected call, and how to check a message before you click anything. Nobody needs a smartphone, a computer, or any tech background to follow along.
People leave knowing what to watch for, what to do in the moment, and how to talk about it with their family. There's plenty of time for questions, and the questions are usually the best part.
I spent 30 years in accounting and legal software, and at 65 I built my first web app by working with AI and asking a lot of questions. Now I run Late Boomer AI, where I explain AI in plain English for folks over 60.
I'm not here to sell anyone on AI. I'm here because the same technology I use every day is being used against people like us, and knowing how the trick works is most of the protection.
Scammers now use AI to clone voices, fake videos, and write messages that sound just right. Join Mary Steele of Late Boomer AI to see real examples of how these scams work and learn the simple habits that stop them. Plain English, no tech background needed, and plenty of time for questions.
Copy it as-is or trim it to fit. If you need a photo, a shorter version, or anything else for your program listing, just ask.
Email me a little about your group and the dates you have in mind. I'll reply within a couple of days and we'll take it from there.
